UX, Visual Design, team training, Team building
2014 - 2015
I was approached by Procore's head of Engineering (current CTO) after speaking at RailsConf in Chicago on Developers and Designers working better together. I was invited to their Carpenteria (near Santa Barbara), CA HQ to give the talk and lead a day of workshops hands-on teaching the techniques for UX discovery.
That lead to an ongoing engagement with the company in which the I prioritized UX with management, helped build out a UX team, collaborated & devised a new brand-based look and feel for the app, and built out a full suite of prototypes/mocks for two of the modules of their best-in-class construction management software.
The mocks shown below were all done by me, collaborating with Product (Josh Newland, Brandon Terry) and design reviews with team members as the design team grew.
The Screen that Sold UX
Initial work on the first module had been going well, when Brandon Terry asked me to present with him on a future for UX at Procore. We showed a variety of slides discussing details but ended with this mockup/vision board that put a flag in the ground and set Procore on the path to it's modern UX team and look/feel. Hand Drawn wireframe and final mockup.
Submittals Dash & First Time Experience
Dashboards are often thought of as complete items with all the data present, but our first experiences with them are as empty canvases, waiting to be filled. Without direction, these can become blockers for many users. We took a look at how we could improve the first time experience and provide some non-blocking training to the users of Procore's Submittals module.
SUBMITTALS: Workflow Management
Workflow Management was a large part of the Submittals Module.
The Product Lead and I created a visual editor that allowed for complex workflow and branching steps.
